Major Cooperation Agreement Between Azul and Gol in Brazilian Aviation Sector Sparks Merger Speculation
Two of Brazil’s largest airlines, Azul and Gol, have announced a major cooperation agreement that is set to shake up the country’s aviation market. The codeshare deal will connect the domestic flight networks of both airlines, offering customers more than 2,700 flight options with just one connection.
The partnership will also allow members of Azul Fidelidade and Smiles frequent flier programs to earn points or miles when taking the new codeshare flights. The agreement is scheduled to begin at the end of June.
Speculation about a potential merger between Azul and Gol has been intensifying in recent months. Both airlines are enjoying favorable market conditions and have profitable side businesses, but any merger would require approval from regulators due to their dominant positions in the Brazilian airline sector.
Despite some financial restructuring, Gol has sufficient cash to continue flying without disruption, thanks to support from its parent company Abra. The cooperation agreement between Azul and Gol comes at a time when the aviation industry is facing challenges due to the ongoing pandemic.
The news of the partnership has sparked interest among industry experts and passengers alike, as they wait to see how this collaboration will impact the Brazilian aviation market in the coming months.
