Engineers Gate, the Hedge Fund with $2 Billion in Assets, Expanding Operations in Singapore

Engineers Gate Expands into Asia Multi-Strategy Space with Singapore Office Opening

Engineers Gate, a prominent New York-based quant firm with over $2 billion in assets under management, is making a significant move into the crowded Asia multi-strategy space by establishing a new office in Singapore. This development comes as the firm looks to expand its presence in the Asia Pacific region and tap into the growing opportunities in the market.

The firm, founded nearly a decade ago by Glenn Dubin, the former cofounder of Highbridge Capital, has appointed Rafael Andreata and Mingyan Huang as the co-heads of the new Singapore office. Andreata, who previously served as the chief investment officer at New Fleet Capital, and Huang, who brings experience from the endowment of Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, are tasked with spearheading the local buildout in the region.

The move by Engineers Gate comes at a time when the Asian multi-strategy landscape is witnessing a surge in activity, with established players expanding their fundraising efforts and new entrants entering the market. In Singapore alone, firms like Dymon Asia and Arrowpoint Investment Partners are looking to grow their assets under management significantly in the coming years.

Despite the firm’s growth and expansion, Engineers Gate has remained tight-lipped about its plans for the new office in Singapore. Both Andreata and Huang, according to their LinkedIn profiles, assumed their roles in March of this year, signaling the recent establishment of the office.

With a strong presence in major financial hubs like New York, Boston, and London, Engineers Gate boasts a diverse team of over 30 portfolio managers. The firm’s success and growth in recent years have been underscored by the doubling of its assets under management since Dubin stepped down from his leadership role in 2020.

Dubin’s retirement from the firm, following scrutiny over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein, has not deterred Engineers Gate’s momentum in the market. The firm’s decision to expand into Asia reflects its commitment to capitalizing on the region’s growing opportunities and solidifying its position as a key player in the competitive multi-strategy space.
