Exploring Sweden’s Private Equity Industry and the Role of the Wallenberg Family
The Wallenberg family, known for its significant role in Sweden’s private equity industry, has recently launched a new investment office called Nineteen Private Capital. Led by chief executive Daniel Winther, the firm aims to consolidate and manage the private markets investments previously scattered across the Wallenberg Foundations’ portfolio.
With around €250 million in PE and VC exposure under management, Nineteen Private Capital plans to quadruple its net assets to €1 billion over the next five years. The firm will focus on building a concentrated portfolio diversified away from public equities, with a strategic emphasis on North American and European managers.
Winther’s immediate task is to develop a pacing plan and investment strategy before the board’s first meeting in June. The firm plans to target mid-cap market investments with average ticket sizes between €20 million and €40 million, while also considering opportunities with emerging managers.
The name “Nineteen” holds historical significance for the Wallenberg family, symbolizing a fresh start and the opportunity to build something new. With a focus on systematic and process-driven investment approaches, Nineteen Private Capital aims to bring a more structured and diversified approach to the Wallenberg Foundations’ private markets investments.
