Navigating Impact Performance Reporting Challenges: A Discussion with Industry Experts
In a recent podcast episode, Impact Frontiers Executive Director Mike McCreless and Impact Manager Rebecca Spohrer joined Rosl Veltmeijer to discuss the challenges of impact performance reporting in the impact investing industry. The trio delved into the creation of Impact Performance Reporting Norms, a set of shared expectations for reporting impact results by asset managers in private markets.
The Impact Performance Reporting Norms were developed through an 18-month public consultation involving over 350 industry stakeholders. The goals of the norms are to facilitate the flow of information about impacts to inform investor decision-making, make reporting less burdensome for asset managers, provide criteria for independent review, and offer a prototype for future disclosure standards.
One key takeaway from the discussion was the importance of finding the right Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that truly reflect the impact being created and are valued by stakeholders. McCreless emphasized the need for standardization in KPIs to ensure comparability and trust in impact measurement.
