Paul Hastings Expands to Boston with Former Sidley Austin Leader Alexander Temel
Paul Hastings Makes Strategic Move to Launch Boston Office with Former Sidley Austin Leader
In a strategic move to expand its presence in the fast-growing legal market, Paul Hastings has hired Alexander Temel, a former co-leader of Sidley Austin’s international private equity practice, to launch an office in Boston. Temel will join Paul Hastings as a global co-chair of the private equity practice, bringing with him a team of lawyers, including William Schwab, another former Sidley partner.
Temel, who previously co-founded Latham & Watkins’ Boston office, has an impressive client list that includes Goldman Sachs, Great Hill Partners, Sixth Street, and Thayer Street Partners. His addition to the firm comes as part of Paul Hastings’ focus on bolstering its private equity practice, following recent hires from Goodwin Procter and other top firms.
The firm’s recruiting efforts have not gone unnoticed, with firm chair Frank Lopez noting a significant increase in collections during the fiscal first quarter, compared to the year-ago period. Revenue has also seen a steady rise, reaching $1.8 billion last year.
Temel cited Paul Hastings’ success in recruiting top talent in key practice areas as a major factor in his decision to join the firm. He also praised the firm’s leadership for their forward-thinking vision and momentum in the market.
Lopez sees Boston as a strategic location for the firm, with attractive practices in private equity, funds formation, life sciences, and litigation. However, he emphasized that the decision to enter the market was primarily driven by the opportunity to bring on board leaders like Temel who are committed to building and growing the firm.
Overall, Paul Hastings’ recent lateral hires reflect a culture of collaboration and ambition, with a focus on building a strong team of legal professionals to drive the firm’s success in the highly competitive legal market.
