Supertext and Textshuttle Merge to Build Something Big: A Look at the Future of Language Services and Technology

Supertext and Textshuttle Merge to Create Language Industry Powerhouse

In a groundbreaking move that has sent shockwaves through the language industry, two Swiss companies, Supertext and Textshuttle, have announced their merger in April 2024. The merger sees Textshuttle’s co-Founder and CTO, Samuel Läubli, stepping into the role of CEO of the combined organization, which will be rebranded as Supertext towards the end of 2024.

Supertext, a leading language service provider in Switzerland with revenues of USD 20m in 2023, has joined forces with Textshuttle, a machine translation and language AI company known for its early work in neural MT. The merger, which was a pure share-swap arrangement with no cash changing hands, brings together the strengths of both companies to create a powerhouse in the language industry.

The newly formed organization, with 120 full-time employees, will be led by a dynamic leadership team that includes Laura Fernández, CEO of Supertext Corporate, and Lucas Seiler, CEO of Textshuttle. Läubli, along with Supertext’s co-Founders Fabian Dieziger and Rémy Blättler, will also join the Executive Board to steer the company towards future growth and success.

According to Läubli, the merger was a natural fit for both companies, as they are both successful and largely bootstrapped, with a simple ownership structure that made the deal seamless. The decision to merge, rather than pursue other forms of cooperation, was driven by the desire to create something big and impactful in the language industry.

The focus of the combined organization will be on product development, with an emphasis on creating new offerings that combine AI and expert services to meet the evolving needs of clients. By establishing a common culture and leveraging the strengths of both teams, Supertext and Textshuttle are poised to reach a broader range of clients and unlock new opportunities in the market.

While mergers in the language industry are rare, the Supertext-Textshuttle merger stands out as a unique combination of a tech company and a services company coming together to create a unified offering that promises significant rewards. As the industry continues to evolve, the merger sets a new standard for innovation and collaboration in the language services sector.
